Read Abstract

The sixth issue of Polish Theatre Journal consists of two clearly distinct thematic parts connected by a common idea. The first part concerns the Polish theatrical avant-garde. In this part, we present reflections on the historical avant-garde (Małgorzata Dziewulska, Dorota Sajewska), study phenomena from the history of the Polish theatrical avant-garde (Zofia Dworakowska, Paulina Kubas), and attempt to place and reinterpret its achievements in a European context (Jakub Kłeczek, Małgorzata Jabłońska). The second part of the issue is devoted to Solidarity seen as an innovative social idea that manifests itself, realises itself and establishes its historical shape in both artistic and social performances (Łucja Iwanczewska, Marcin Kościelniak, Paweł Sztarbowski). Both of the issue’s parts are linked by the idea of reclaiming – or, rather, re-calling – projects and concepts that for various reasons have not been implemented, yet have the potential to shape new, anticipated and sought-after ways of organising social, cultural and theatrical life, not only in Poland. We extend our approach to this topic in the current PTJ issue by publishing records of discussions conducted by young researchers during the annual Malta International Theatre Festival in Poznań in June 2018.
